What we do
Diagnostics and DPF work is what we do most of, and what we are set up for. Everything else follows from finding the fault properly in the first place.
Vehicle diagnostics
Full system scan, live data and physical testing to find out what is actually wrong — engine management lights, ABS and airbag faults, electrical problems, sensors, limp mode and no-start conditions.
- Fault codes read across all available modules
- Live data checked against expected values
- Written explanation of what we found and what it will take to fix
DPF cleaning & regeneration
DPF light on, loss of power or limp mode. We diagnose why the filter has blocked, check pressure and temperature readings, then clean or regenerate where the filter and the engine are in a fit state for it.
- Forced regeneration with diagnostic equipment
- On-vehicle DPF cleaning
- Sensor, EGR and injector faults found before the filter blocks again
Servicing
Interim and full servicing on your driveway or at work. Oil and filters, brake inspection and a health check, with the old oil taken away with us.

Roadside assistance for non-starters and breakdowns. If it cannot be fixed where it sits, we can arrange recovery to your home or a garage.
Check availabilityDon't guess. Diagnose it.
A single warning light can be triggered by dozens of different faults. Replacing parts based on a guess is how people end up spending hundreds and still driving the same car with the same problem.
We scan every module the vehicle will give us access to, read stored and pending codes, then check live sensor data and the physical components before we tell you what is wrong. You get the codes, the readings and a straight answer on what it will take to put right.

DPF light on? Loss of power? Limp mode?
A diesel particulate filter blocks for a reason. Forcing a regeneration without finding that reason gets you a few hundred miles at best before the same light comes back on.
Most blocked filters we see are the symptom, not the fault. Short journeys that never get the exhaust hot enough, a failed differential pressure sensor, an exhaust temperature sensor reading wrong, EGR problems, a leaking injector or a stuck thermostat will all stop a regeneration completing. We check for those before touching the filter.
Where the filter is in a fit state, on-vehicle cleaning and a controlled regeneration will usually bring it back. Where it is heavily ash loaded or damaged, no amount of cleaning will save it — and we will tell you that rather than charge you for work that will not last.

Diagnostic scan
Full scan of the engine and emissions systems, including soot and ash loading, differential pressure and any stored regeneration faults.
Identify the cause
We work out why the filter has blocked or why regenerations are failing — driving pattern, sensor fault, EGR, injector, boost or cooling system.
Assess the filter and live data
Pressure readings and exhaust temperatures are checked under running conditions to judge whether the filter is recoverable.
Regenerate or clean
Where conditions allow, we carry out a forced regeneration or on-vehicle cleaning. If it is not safe or sensible to do so, we say so.
Repair the underlying fault
Sensors, EGR faults, injector and boost problems are put right so the filter is not straight back where it started.
£100Mobile call-out
anywhere in South West Devon
- Full diagnostics
- Code reading and clearing where appropriate
- Initial fault finding
- Pre-MOT checks where applicable
One fixed price to get a qualified mobile mechanic to your vehicle with the diagnostic equipment to find out what is wrong. If you go ahead with the repair, half of it comes back off the bill.
Parts and repair labour are quoted separately once the fault is known. The £50 comes off the repair when the work is booked with us. Outside South West Devon, call us with your postcode and we will confirm the call-out before we set off.
Servicing where the car is parked
No garage drop-off, no courtesy car, no day off work. We turn up with the oil, filters and tools and service the vehicle where it sits.
- Interim servicing
- Full servicing
- Oil and filter changes
- Air, fuel and cabin filter replacement

Questions we get asked
How much does a mobile mechanic call-out cost?
Our mobile call-out is £100 anywhere in South West Devon. That covers travel to you, a full diagnostic scan, code reading and clearing where appropriate, initial fault finding and a pre-MOT check where applicable. If you then book the repair with us, £50 comes straight off the cost of that work. Parts and repair labour are quoted separately once we know what is actually wrong, and you get that price before anything is started.
Do you come to my house?
Yes. We work at your home, your workplace or at the roadside. All we need is safe, legal access to the vehicle and enough room to work around it — most driveways, car parks and quiet streets are fine. A few jobs need level ground or somewhere off a busy road, and we will tell you on the phone if that applies to yours.
Can you diagnose an engine management light?
Yes, it is one of the most common calls we get. We plug in and read stored and pending fault codes across the vehicle's modules, then check live data and the physical components before deciding on a cause. A code points to a circuit or a symptom, not automatically to a failed part — the testing after the scan is what actually finds the fault, and it is the reason people end up replacing one part instead of three.
Can you diagnose a car that will not start?
Yes. Non-starting vehicles are a big part of the work. We test the battery and charging system first, then look at starting, fuelling, immobiliser and sensor faults depending on what the vehicle is doing when you turn the key. Plenty of no-start jobs are fixed on the spot with a battery, starter motor, alternator, glow plugs or a sensor. If the fault needs workshop equipment, we can arrange recovery instead.
Can you clean a blocked DPF?
In many cases, yes. We scan the vehicle, check DPF pressure and exhaust temperature readings and look at soot and ash loading before deciding. Where the filter is partially blocked and the rest of the system is healthy, on-vehicle cleaning and a controlled regeneration will usually restore it. Where a filter is heavily ash loaded, melted or physically damaged, cleaning will not save it — at that point it is a replacement filter, and we would rather tell you that than take your money for a job that will not last.
Can you perform a forced DPF regeneration?
Yes, we can run a forced regeneration with diagnostic equipment where the vehicle's condition allows it. There are conditions to meet first: oil level and dilution, coolant temperature, fuel level and no active faults blocking the process. We check the cause of the blockage before forcing anything, because a regeneration on a car with a failed sensor or an engine fault will simply block again — usually within a few hundred miles.
Why does my DPF keep blocking?
A filter that blocks repeatedly means the regeneration process is being interrupted or prevented. The usual causes are short, low-speed journeys that never let the exhaust get hot enough, a faulty differential pressure or exhaust temperature sensor, EGR problems, a leaking injector, turbo or boost faults, low coolant temperature from a stuck thermostat, or oil contamination from previously aborted regenerations. Finding which one applies to your vehicle is the whole point of the diagnostic.
Can you service my car at home?
Yes. Interim and full services, oil and filter changes, brake inspections and vehicle health checks are all done at your address. You do not lose a day dropping the car off and collecting it, and the old oil and filters go with us for correct disposal.
Can you clear warning lights?
We can clear codes once the fault behind them has been identified and dealt with. Clearing a light on its own repairs nothing — on most modern vehicles it returns as soon as the system runs its next self test, and on some it will not clear at all while the fault is live. We will always tell you what the code was and what caused it.
Do you cover my area?
We cover Devon, with the fastest response across South Devon, Torbay and the Exeter area. If you are not sure, call 07494 234003 or send your postcode on WhatsApp to 07397 042753 and we will tell you straight away, along with a realistic time.
Do you offer recovery?
Yes. If a vehicle cannot be repaired safely where it sits, or it is not safe to leave where it has stopped, we can arrange recovery to your home, your chosen garage or another destination. When you call, tell us the location, the vehicle, and whether it rolls and steers — that decides what we send.
Do I need to take my car to a garage?
For most diagnostic, servicing and repair work, no. We carry the tools, diagnostic equipment and common parts to finish the majority of jobs at your address. Work that needs ramps, a press, specialist alignment or engine removal belongs in a workshop, and we will say so plainly rather than start a job that cannot be finished properly on your driveway.
